Grant Yourself More Purchasing Power Each Month
This is a collaborative post.
Many of us measure our purchasing power by our income, and that’s perhaps the best place to start, of course. However, it’s also true that our income doesn’t always determine our standard of living in strict possible terms. Of course, if you’re earning around £20,000 a year, you’re not exactly going to be investing in sports cars or large houses anytime soon, particularly if you have a family to take care of.

That being said, there are various schemes, saving habits and programs you can sign on for or make use of to grant yourself just that little bit extra purchasing power each month. Saving is of course part of that. Why purchase on-brand cereal when the off-brand supermarket’s own is almost identical and sometimes half of the price? These questions can help you start pinching the pennies, which really do add up in the long run.
Of course, sometimes purchasing power means more than treating yourself, but how you run your life and your finances from month to month in order to stay on top of things. Let’s consider how you can maximize your potential using that effort.
Round-Up Your Expenditures
There are a number of apps out there (searchable on the App & Play Stores) that provide you the means to ‘round-up’ your purchases into a savings pot. So, say your lunch purchase comes to £5.45, £0.55 of that would be rounded up and added into your saving pot because it balances out to the next pound. Of course, little sacrifices like this are less-than-noticeable, but they do make up a big difference at the end of the week. It can also make your expenditures easier to calculate. You could use something like SoFi to help you invest the savings over time as well.
Consider Financed Options
Consider the financing options available to you. Most people will see that they have a range of different options out there for use, not solely limited to payday loans. From being able to pay in quarterly sums for a piece of furniture to financing a car rather than buying it outright, purchasing power like this can often net you a much better quality item than you may have otherwise purchased. Remember, purchases are not just defined by the ‘now’, but how you spend over time, and what that means for your sustainable income. For some, these options are worth thinking through.
Point & Reward Schemes
Point and reward schemes are there to help you. You may not like the idea of sitting around on a Sunday cutting all of the coupons out of your catalogue, but that’s usually a practice of the past. Instead, point cards that help you grow your balance as you shop with certain brands can help you gain free items at the end of the month or year. This can slowly help you ensure you can purchase more, even if it’s direct coupons to save money, or perhaps means in which to make use of special promotions. Some credit card providers hold these benefits, too. Don’t be afraid to use them.
With this advice, we hope you can grant yourself more purchasing power each month.
